One of the most interesting place in Zanzibar is the Prison Island. Such a name it was not accidental. Many years ago, a British general built a prison on the island, but it was never used for its intended purpose. Before the arrival of the British, the Arabs ruled the city. Arab slave owners used the island to keep slaves until they found future buyers. So the name Prison was fixed behind the island.

There is now a reserve of giant tortoises on the island, brought from Seychelles in the 19th century. The average weight of an adult reaches 200 kg and many are more than 150 years old. You will have a unique opportunity to touch the tortoise and take a photo as a keepsake. The island is also home to beautiful peacocks.

After lunch, you tour will continue to Stone Town.

The Stone Town is an amazing place with winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and old Arab houses, whose original owners competed with each other for the extravagance of their doors and other decorations of houses. In the Old Town, there are more than 500 different examples of “door needlework.”

You will visit all the iconic places of the city. The Stone Town is also a great place to buy local souvenirs.

Walking tour of the Stone City takes about 3 hours
