Discover the beautiful UNESCO world heritage city though a Half day Stone Town walking Tour. The townscape features magnificent buildings and sights reflecting a colonization of over 1000 years. The alleyways of the old city are too narrow for cars.

No description of Stone Town could be complete without a mention of the famous Zanzibar doors. These massive teak or mahogany structures grace the front of almost every building of note, and their style has been copied all over the world. The original Zanzibar doors owe their distinctive brass studs to India – the studs originated as a defense against war elephants, used to batter down fortified doors in the tribal wars of Punjabi history. Needless to say, this distinctive feature of Stone Town’s doors has always been purely decorative.

Visit the Zanzibar’s colorful market, alive with the buzz of locals bartering fresh vegetables and baskets of tropical fruit, cocoa farm, amongst the heady smell of exotic fruit.

Continue to the site of a cathedral built in 1874. The cathedral signifies a potent time in Zanzibar’s history and stands on the sight of a past slave market with the high altar standing on the exact site of the whipping post. Slavery was abolished in 1873 by decree of the Sultan of Zanzibar.

From here, visit the residence of the late Sultan of Zanzibar, ‘Tip Tip House’, the Old Fort, ‘Peoples Palace’ and the House of Wonders (Beit-al-Ajaib) that houses a collection of personal items from the royal rulers of Zanzibar, Forodhani garden full of intrigue from days of long ago.

The tour ends with a stroll down the narrow streets of the old Stone Town with a souvenir shopping at the small stores for delicate jewelry, distinct Swahili clothing, hand-carved curios and paintings.
